Young filmmakers needed for Library’s film creation festival

Charlotte, NC — Aug. 6, 2008 — Calling all aspiring young filmmakers. The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County is accepting original short films by students up to 18 years of age for the Student Short Film Festival. You can also share your filmmaking inspiration and process with the audience during the festival. Entries are due by Tuesday, September 2. Films should be submitted in digital formats (avi, mov, wav) or DVD, not film.

Don’t have a place to produce the film? Just use Studio i at ImaginOn. Those interested need to submit basic information: name, email or phone number, age or grade, the title and information about the film, names of filmmakers, length of film, and whether you’d like to speak about your film.

The Student Short Film Festival takes place Saturday, Sept. 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Wachovia Playhouse at ImaginOn located at 300 East 7th Street. As many films as possible for the allowed time will be shown, provided the material is of appropriate content for the age group. For more information contact Tech Central at ImaginOn at (704) 973-2727.

Founded in 1903 as a Carnegie Free Library, PLCMC has become one of the premiere libraries in the country with 24 locations, 1.6 million volumes, and 28,000 videos, DVDs and CDs.
