POSITION TITLE: LibrarianPOSITION NUMBER: 20012569 LOCATION: Sugar Creek Branch STARTING SALARY: $35,344-$45,430 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 5/15/2008 DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Incumbent is responsible for assisting the public with
informational and reader's advisory queries, for creating
opportunities for education and enrichment both in the
Library's facilities and out in the community, and for
furthering the Library's mission and vision through creative
approaches to public service. Responsibilities will evolve
constantly but can generally be expected to include
reference and reader's advisory service in and out of the
Library, programming, public technology classes, outreach,
weeding, staff training, system projects, and leadership in
the Library and in the community. Plans and presents
developmentally appropriate in-house and outreach programs
for adults & young adults. Provides system-wide team support
as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: MLS from an ALA accredited program and NC Public Librarian certification. Experience providing reference service to Adults and Young Adults. Successful applicants will possess a comprehensive knowledge of books and literature, strong computer skills, the ability to quickly learn new technologies with or without formal training, leadership skills, the ability to confidently speak in public and to represent the Library in a variety of settings, intellectual curiosity, initiative, and the ability to work as part of a team. An awareness of trends in library service and an ability to contribute fresh approaches to the library's work are also vital. Must have the ability to work effectively with a diverse public in a fast paced environment, have excellent written and verbal skills, and a strong commitment to and for public service and service excellence. materials utilizing the library's classification system;
assisting library customers in locating and using library
resources and equipment; checks materials in and out;
performs general office and light housekeeping duties with
primary responsibility for the physical appearance of the
library facility. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma/GED preferred; or currently enrolled in a secondary school; minimum age of 16; customer service experience helpful. Demonstrated proficiency in use of alpha-numeric filing systems and use of computer; familiarity with books/authors and library operations desired; accuracy and attention to detail required; Flexibility in scheduling a plus; ability to multi task needed. Job requires lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and standing for long periods of time. WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 19 hours per week; includes some nights and alternating weekends. materials utilizing the library's classification system,
emptying the outdoor bookdrops, and packaging materials for
delivery to other library locations. Periodically assists at
the circulation desk by checking in and out materials;
registering patrons, handling fines, etc. and assisting
patrons in locating library materials & using library
catalog. Performs light housekeeping duties with the primary
responsibility the physical appearance of the library's
collection and keeping the library neat and inviting. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast paced environment; ability to work well with a diverse public and have a strong public service orientation; ability to operate a computer terminal; proficient in the use of alpha/numeric systems; accuracy and attention to detail with a high livel of productivity are required. Job requires lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, and standing for long periods of time. Successful candidate must adhere to library's personal appearance standards. WORK SCHEDULE: A rotating schedule of up to 19 hours per week, including two to three nights per week and alternating weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). materials in & out; registering patrons; collecting fines;
helping patrons locate requested materials or information; &
helping patrons with computer questions. Shelve & maintain
specific collections in the branch. Assess damaged items;
notify borrower; & alert branch manager to ongoing status of
the item. Process new periodicals & communicate any
problems to Collection Management. Order branch supplies as
needed. Process PLCMC materials reports, searching shelves
for items with a status such as Trace, In Transit, Mending,
& Workroom. Design & set up item displays on a rotating
basis. Create signage for library programs. Participate on
PLCMC committees as assigned. Occasionally serve as Manager
on Duty. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED required. Some college & former library experience desirable. Excellent written & oral communication skills; the ability to work well with the public including many children & older adults; the ability to work alone in a busy setting; the ability to organize materials alphabetically & numerically. Flexibility in accommodating schedule changes a must. Computer proficiency, accuracy & attention to detail, & high levels of productivity are required. Familiarity with books & authors a plus. WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week varying schedule including one to two nights a week and every other Saturday. Will occasionally need to work a split. grounds maintenance. Duties might include: performing
custodial work; performing general grounds keeping such as
picking up trash and debris; performing general building

physical plant; and setting up rooms to support facility
programs and events. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED and six months relevant custodial or maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid Driver's License. This position requires bending, lifting heavy objects, pushing, pulling, standing for long periods of time. Must have basic computer skills. Community Engagement Division with overall responsibilities
for corporate, foundation and grant programs that support
the Public Library. This includes researching, soliciting,
and securing annual and multi-year corporate sponsorships,
gift commitments, in-kind support and grant funding. Key
activities include developing a strategy and plan for
increased corporate/foundation support; leveraging board and
volunteer connections; cultivating relationships on an
ongoing basis; managing donor expectations and recognition;
and tracking and evaluation of corporate and foundation
support. Collaborated with Marketing and Communications
Department as necessary; prepare and execute all written
proposals; adhere to strict standards of confidentiality
with respect to donor records;partners with
staff and other key stakeholders to advocate and promote the
value of public library services. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Nonprofit Management or other relevant subjects. Proficiency with donor database management systems, preferably Raiser's Edge; certified Fund Raising Executive desired. Ability to speak a second language preferred; 3+ years relevant fundraising experience with corporate/foundation sponsorships and grants. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of stakeholder and constituencies, both internal and external to the organization; proficiency utilizing current technology and office management software applications; strong communications, presentation, writing and listening skills; good organizational and problem solving skills; ability to work with diverse communities and stakeholders; proven experience in championing innovative and visionary leadership in organizational funding programs. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma, or G.E.D., and one year of related computer and customer service skills or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Customer focused attitude a must; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a diverse public and patrons of all ages. Some library or retail experience strongly preferred. Proficient in the use of alpha/numerical systems; familiarity with books/authors. Assistant in The Loft (ImaginOn's teen library) will be
required to develop, schedule, and carry out high interest,
age-appropriate programs for teens 12-18. Other duties will
include assisting 6th graders - 12th graders with
information needs, electronic resources, and material
recommendations; performing community outreach in order to
extend the library's services to teens; serving on system
wide library teams that have a teen focus or initiative JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma/GED required. Some college and former library experience desirable. Library science (MLIS degree program)student preferred. A genuine interest in teens and in the issues that affect their lives and welfare; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a diverse public; ability to plan age-appropriate and interesting activities for teens; creativity and a willingness to try new things; knowledge of literature, film, music and technology of interest to teens; high comfort level utilizing PCs and other technology; ability to work effectively in a team environment; solid organizational skills; flexibility WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week; some evenings and rotating weekends.
