Renew an Item

- Access the My Account tab of the online catalog.
- Enter the bar code number from your library card.
- Select Renew Items from the menu options.
- Place a Checkmark next to the item you want to renew.
- Click on the RENEW button.
Note: You may also renew items through Telephone Renewal.
General Notes
You may renew an item on-line if the item has not been renewed before, and if the item can be renewed. Certain high-demand items will not renew. You may find that you cannot renew items on-line if you owe $10 or more in fines, or have many overdue items.
Three (3) week renewal is allowed for the following materials:
Circulating print materials not on hold for another patron, compact discs, juvenile kits (book and cassette), foreign language cassette tapes, branch browsing music cassettes, spoken cassettes, and abridged audiotape books / unabridged audiotape books, CD-ROM software. Such items may be renewed twice.
Three (3) day renewal is allowed for the following materials:
Non-rental videos and DVDs not on hold for another patron. Such items may be renewed twice.
Videos (One renewal only)
Note: This includes instructional videos which may have had an initial one-week loan period.
The following materials may not be renewed:
Interlibrary loans borrowed from another library outside PLCMC, teacher loan items, items on hold for another patron. Rental hardbacks and DVDs may not be renewed, but they can be re-rented if one brings the item back in and no-one else has requested the item.

Request an Item (Place a Hold)
If an item you want is already checked out, you may request a hold on it. Holds may be placed on circulating books, videos, compact discs, audiotape books, children’s kits and foreign language tapes. Holds may not be placed on browsing paperbacks, magazines, browsing audiocassette or North Carolina Room collections. Each patron may have up to twenty (20) items on hold at any one time.
If you wish to research and pick up an item that is available and checked in, you may use our Quick Pick-Up option.
- Access the online catalog.
- Search Catalog.
- Locate the item you want to request.
- Click on the Request Item button.
- Enter the bar code number from your library card and click on the Login button.
- Select the Library Location you wish to pick your item up at. Click on the Request button.
You can check that your hold was placed by viewing your holds list in your account. See: View Your Account
Quick Pick-Up
If a title shows "IN" at a convenient location and you want to pick that item up right away, call that library location and ask for our Quick Pick-Up service. Staff at that location will check to make sure the item is on the shelf, and will hold it for you for three days. If the title is checked out, use our Request an Item feature.
View Your Account
You can see information on items you have checked out, fines you owe, holds you have placed, the address the library has on record for you as well as renew items through the Catalog's My Account feature.
- Access the My Account tab of the online catalog.
- Enter the bar code number from your library card and click on the Login button.
- Use the menu bar to renew items, views holds, fines and blocks or verify your account information.
Pay Fines and Fees Online
Use your Credit or Debit Card* on our secure server to pay your fines and fees online.
Enter your library card number to view your fines and fees. Follow the instructions to make a payment.
*We accept American Express,Visa,MasterCard and Discover.

- Go to our online Fines and Fees page.
- Enter library card number to access your account balance due.
- Click view account.
- View current balance due and a detailed list of charges.
- Select pay fines button. If there is no balance due on account you will not see button.
- Enter credit card information and click pay now button. Note: you may not partial pay amounts due. You may only pay the full amount.
- You will receive a confirmation number and a screen that can be printed for your records. If an email address has been provided you will recieve an email confirmation as well.
