Independence Regional Library serves the diverse population of eastern Mecklenburg County seven days a week. Located across from East Mecklenburg High School at the corner of Monroe Road and Conference Drive, the 18,000 square-foot library is large enough to supply many books, services, and activities while being small enough to maintain a friendly atmosphere. Ample parking is available for visitors.
The library's collection of books includes fiction, nonfiction, and reference books for children, teens, and adults. Whether you're looking for a thrilling novel, the right recipe for that special meal, or help researching a project, there is something for you here. The newest adult books, including best-sellers, can be found in our Popular Library along with videos, DVDs, and CD books. Other media available include audio-tape books, music CDs, Rocket eBooks, and CD-ROMs for your home computer. Special features of the collection include children's easy readers, graphic novels and other books for young adults, a variety of magazines, including Spanish language titles, large print books, and books in Gujarati and Spanish.
From the centrally located Information Desk, our team of librarians and youth specialists provides prompt and expert reference assistance to children, teens, and adults by telephone and in person. Using an extensive collection of reference books, carefully selected web sites, and online databases, the library staff can help with questions ranging from introductory reports on planets and countries, to Senior Exit projects, to company research to health information.
Providing access to technology is a key role for Independence Regional, which has dozens of computers available for public use. Internet access is available at our 20 Internet Learning Center computers. Software available in our Research and Document Processing Center includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint, as well as subscription databases that provide complete magazine and newspaper articles on specialized topics such as business, health and literary criticism. Children have access to educational games and homework help on 12 computers in our Family Center.
