The Matthews Branch Library is part of the Matthews Town Center, which also houses the Matthews Town Hall. Because the Matthews Town Center is located next to the old Train Depot, a train theme can be found throughout the library. Special features include a children’s computer area shaped like a larger-than-life toy train and a large, crackling fireplace framed by a wood-paneled mantelpiece and original artwork.
Matthews Branch offers storytimes on Wednesday mornings for both toddlers and preschool age children. Occasional evening programs such as the "Preschool Pajama Party" are offered to accommodate working parents and their children.

Staff and reference resources provide homework support for students and general information for all ages.
The large staff at Matthews are experts in all of our circulating items, and will be glad to help you find anything from a good bestseller or movie to a great CD or book on audiotape.
There are six public-access computers to search the online catalog and resources such as “NC Live” and “Novelist.” 12 PCs are available for general use, and eight of them are near the children's area for the use of older children. There are also six PCs especially for children, located on the “train” in the Children’s Department. The Computer Learning Center holds 18 additional PCs, where instructors lead regular classes on topics such as Windows, word processing, surfing the Internet and using e-mail.
A Conference Room is available for public use, and the larger Community Room is the site of many library programs from children’s events to book discussions and more. We also offer interlibrary loan services and ongoing book sales.
