Help Us Paint the Town Read!
The Public Library wants you to help "Paint the Town Read!". That’s “red” like the color but “read” as in the best indicator of success in a young person’s life, an act that brings people together and an activity that is simply a bunch of fun—for individuals and the whole community. The Paint the Town Read! program will kick-off on February 14. Simply go by your local PLCMC branch and receive your Paint the Town Read kit for yourself or your household. Track five fun reading experiences you, your family or friends have had together and receive a special PTTR sign for your yard or window as well as tickets to the Red Read Party that will take place during National Library week in April!
For information about this program contact the Youth and Outreach Services Director.

Here’s how it works:
- Pick up your “Painters Kit” at any library location and have 5 fun reading experiences (read out loud, share a book with a friend, talk about your favorite poem, read entertaining articles online—you get the picture, just have some fun reading).
- Check ‘em off on your “reading paint chip” (yep, it looks just like a paint chip).
- Bring your paint chip back to any public library to receive your Paint the Town Read! yard sign.
- Put the sign in your yard, your window, (even on your car) to show your support for reading and your public library.
To make it even more fun, do this:
- Take a picture of you, your family, or friends standing where you placed your Paint the Town Read! sign.
- Upload your picture(s) on www.flickr.com. Make sure to tag each picture with “PLCMCpaint” .
- View the pictures you and other folks uploaded.

So, what is a “reading experience?”
Good question. A reading experience can be reading in-and-of itself. It can also mean talking with a friend about a favorite book or article. Or it can be posting a comment on your favorite author’s web site. A reading experience can be attending a book club or simply browsing books that you wouldn’t normally read. You get to decide. Just as reading is fun, we want Paint the Town Read to be fun, too!
