Born Reader Program
In the Born Reader Program, nurses in the maternity departments at area hospitals distribute the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? in English and in Spanish to their patients. Then, they encourage the parents and caregivers to read to their newborn babies. Inside the book is a brochure with library information, tips on reading to newborns, and a library application for a Born Reader library card.
At the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County, we have Born Reader library cards for children 0-5 years old. To find out more about this program and other family literacy programs at the public library, contact Amy Kukla at 704-416-0561 or by email.
We thank our partners Carolinas HealthCare System and Presbyterian Hospital for their participation in this program.
