Book Club Spotlight - Book 'Em
Reading Group Spotlight Questions
If you would like to have your Book Club considered for our Book Club Spotlight, please give us a contact name and email address. Give us a description of your club and include the books that have provided the best discussions and some of the group’s favorite books.
1: What kind of books does your group read?
Young Adults and have existed for 5 years
2: How big is your group?
We have between 1-5 teens attend average age 13. ? It is mostly girls - the teen boys attend the guys read club!
3: How often do you meet and where do you meet?
We meet on the third Thursday of the month at 4:30 pm in the Conference Room at North County Library.
4: Do you have refreshments?
We usually have candy to eat!
5: Who leads the discussion?
Angela, the teen librarian, usually leads the discussion. If there are reading guides available we will use them, but usually we come up with our own questions
6: How do you select the books?
We plan our titles in advance and we usually select popular titles.
7: What books have provided the best discussions?
Some of our favorite titles include: Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and the Harry Potter series. We have been lucky enough to be contacted by authors of some of our selections Megan Shull (Amazing Grace) and Susan Beth Pfeffer (Life as we Knew it) which allowed us to ask questions about the book to the author! How cool is that!
8: How do you keep your group fun?
We tend to talk about a lot more then just books!
9: What advice would you give to other reading groups?
Have fun, a group doesn't have to be large to have a great discussion.
10: How often do you meet and where do you meet?
Our attendance ranges from 1-10 teens.
11: What kind of books does your group read?
We read Young Adult books.
12: Is there anything else noteworthy about the group that you would like to tell us?
We plan a few months in advance.

We have been around since 2003.
14: Do you have refreshments?
This club is mostly girls since the boys formed their own club!
15: Who leads the discussion?
The average age would be 13.

We talk about a lot more then just the books!

We had a great discussion with the following titles: Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine and Amazing Grace by Megan Shull.
19: What books have provided the best discussions?
Yes!
20: Do you have any stories you would like to share with us about your book club?
We try to read the Teen Top Ten winners and other popular titles.
21: How do you keep your group fun?
Angela gets the conversation started and then we see where it leads!
22: What advice would you give to other reading groups?
A little of both.
23: What is the average age of the members?
Harry Potter series, The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker and Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot.
24: Do you take turns bringing the food?
Don't make the group so structured that you can't be open to new adventures.
