Genealogy and Local History Services


PLCMC offers a host of services for those interested in Genealogy and Local History. The Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room at the Main Library plays a vital role in preserving and researching the region's history through its collections and programs.
  • The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Story is PLCMC's local history Web site produced by Carolina Room staff. The site includes extensive local history resources.
  • Top Genealogy sites at PLCMC were chosen by staff with interest and expertise in genealogy. Try these links out today.
  • Carolina Room Collections are extensive for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region and comprehensive for the southeastern United States.
  • The Family Research Computer Center in the Carolina Room provides 100s of CD-ROMs including Family Tree Maker titles and access to the World Wide Web including a full Ancestry.com subscription.
  • Workshops and Programs led by staff cover beginning and advanced genealogy. We also present nationally recognized genealogy and local history speakers each year.
  • Genealogy and Local History Specialists are available by telephone at (704) 336-2980 or by email to share information with you about Carolina Room holdings, upcoming programs, or a new direction for your research.
