Virtual Village Use Policies

The following policies for use of the Virtual Village have been established to insure that all our patrons will have equal opportunity to use these resources:
  1. For young adults, ages 13 to 18, computers are available with prior written permission from the parent. Children 12 and under may use the computers located in the Children’s Department.
  2. Computers in the Virtual Village are available for same day reservations or on a walk-in basis as space permits.
  3. Patrons may stop in or call to reserve a computer for a one-hour time slot. Patrons may use a station for one 1 hour period per day, either walk-in or reservation, which must be in one consecutive session.
  4. If a one-hour period does not exist, the patron will be offered whatever space is available as their turn for the day.
  5. There is a 10-minute grace period for reservations. If you do not arrive within this period, your computer will be offered to someone who is waiting.
  6. Installation and use of outside software, CD-ROMs, diskettes and other items is prohibited. The only exception is the Software Exploration Station.
  7. Copy Charges:
    • Black & White prints are ten cents each.
    • Color prints are $1.00 each.
Only Library supplied paper may be used.
  8. No documents or files can be saved to the hard disk or network server. Patrons should save to their floppy or print out their work each day.
  9. Preformatted disk Charges:
    • Floppy diskettes are $1.00 each.
    • CD-Rs are $1.00 each.
    • CD-RWs are $2.00 each.
  10. Staff is available to advise patrons in the use of the equipment and most applications. Many applications require the user to have extensive training or experience to use. Reference books are available for patrons wishing to use these applications.
  11. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17 U.S. Code) governs the making of reproductions of copyrighted materials. Persons using Library scanners or CD burners will be liable for any infringement. The unauthorized scanning, altering, or copying of documents, licenses, or currency is against Library Policy and in most cases is illegal. Violators will be subject to arrest.
  12. Virtual Village may close for workshops & maintenance. Notice will be posted in advance for these times.
