Interviewing: Putting the right person in the right job is extremely important for the applicant and the Library. We utilize a multi-stage interviewing process which allows the applicant and the hiring department the opportunity to fully explore the applicants interest, ability and placement in a position. The Library also utilizes behavioral interviewing for all positions. Through behavioral interviewing applicants share their past experiences which helps to predict future actions in similar situations. Full Job Descriptions POSITION TITLE: LibrarianPOSITION NUMBER: 20012757 LOCATION: University City Regional STARTING SALARY: $36,344-$45,430 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 11/12/2009 DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Incumbent is responsible for assisting the public with
informational and reader's advisory queries, for creating
opportunities for education and enrichment both in the
Library's facilities and out in the community, and for
furthering the Library's mission and vision through
creative approaches to public service. Responsibilities
will evolve constantly but can generally be expected to
include reference and reader's advisory service in and out
of the Library, programming, public technology classes,
outreach, weeding, staff training, system projects, and
leadership in the Library and in the community. Plans and
presents developmentally appropriate in-house and outreach
programs for adults. Provides system-wide team support as
required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: MLS from ALA accredited program; North Carolina Public Librarian Certification. Successful applicants will possess a comprehensive knowledge of books and literature, strong computer skills, the ability to quickly learn new technologies with or without formal training, leadership skills, the ability to confidently speak in public and to represent the Library in a variety of settings, intellectual curiosity, initiative, and the ability to work as part of a team. An awareness of trends in library service and an ability to contribute fresh approaches to the library's work are also vital. Must have the ability to work effectively with a diverse public in a fast paced environment, have excellent written and verbal skills, and a strong commitment to and for public service and service excellence. back to top POSITION TITLE: Library Location SupervisorPOSITION NUMBER: 20012755 LOCATION: Main Library STARTING SALARY: $41,160-$51,450 APPLICATION DEADLINE: 11/19/2009 DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This position is responsible for the day to day operation
of the Main Library Job Help Center. Incumbent supervises
and schedules a group of staff who perform a variety of
library functions by providing programs and services on
coping with job loss, preparing resumes, building job
search skills and changing careers. They also assists
patrons with computers and on-line resources and interpret
library policies to the general public. The Manager serves
as the Manager on Duty/Acting Manager of a 160,000 square
foot facility with multiple service points. In addition,
the incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing,
implementing, and delivering Job Help Center programs and
services to the public. The Manager guarantees the
resolution of operational, managerial and human resource
problems at the department and building level when serving
as Manager on Duty. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or at least 5 years equivalent work experience required. ALA accredited MLIS preferred. Excellent communication, management and supervisory skills; ability to work in a team management/matrix environment. Knowledge of personal computers, the Internet, and software applications as well as technical skills troubleshooting computer hardwares. Strong leadership and team-building skills. Thorough knowledge of library policies, procedures and best practices. WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week involving nights and a rotating weekend schedule including Sundays.
