Using Email at the Public Library
The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County offers patrons and visitors access to Internet e-mail services through free commercial e-mail services that operate on the World Wide Web.
Additionally, the Virtual Village provides patrons access to Telnet and Pop Mail applications. These programs require that users know the service provider's complete server address as well as their own user name and password. (The Virtual Village is located at the Main Branch of The Public Library.)
Please note that access to proprietary e-mail services such as America Online and CompuServe is not available to patrons due to membership restrictions.
The Library does not allow patrons to send or receive e-mail through browsers such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. This restriction has been imposed to protect the privacy and confidentiality of our patrons' e-mail addresses and messages.
The Library does not endorse the services of any e-mail provider. Additionally, The Library does not accept responsibility for the technical support of e-mail services or for the security of e-mail messages.
