Project 2010: A Case for a New Organizational Model*
In December 2006, PLCMC embarked on a process of reorganization to better serve the community. Called Project 2010 during the planning stages (and Imagine 2010 during implementation), this initiative realigned the library’s organizational structure to meet twenty-first century needs. The new organizational structure is now defined under four key areas: Library Experiences; Community Engagement; Research, Innovation & Strategy; and Organizational Resources. This team is responsible for both the strategic vision and day-to-day operations of the organization. The following position description documents were used as part of the recruiting process for these four key executive positions. During this recruiting process, the library launched the use of the STAR behavioral interviewing technique. Samples of the interviewing guidelines are included below. Balanced Scorecard
Mecklenburg County Government uses a scorecard to depict goals and to report performance. All services provided by Mecklenburg County are targeted to achieve strategic goals in one of four focus areas: Community Health & Safety; Social, Education & Economic Opportunity; Growth Management & Environment and Effective & Efficient Government. The library falls under the focus area of Social, Education & Economic Opportunity. ImaginOn Project Summary*
This project summary and financial overview for ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center was prepared by the Library Board of Trustees for the Mecklenburg County Commissioners on April 5, 2005. ImaginOn opened to the public on October 10, 2005.

Project for Public Spaces*
In 2004, the library sought an identification of the issues, services, partnerships, and other opportunities that should shape the renovation of the children’s library space in Main Library, which was vacated in August 2005 when these services were relocated to ImaginOn. The results of these findings are presented in the “Project for Public Spaces” document.
