Two young girls enjoy the sweet smell
of roses after a soothing rain. However
they can smell something else in the
air -- the smell of change. They sneak
out of their house to find where this
smell of change is coming from. They
fly by the milkman and the market to
find a large group of people. These
people are preparing themselves to
march. The girls march, too. In the
distance they hear the powerful voice
of Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. urging everyone to march for
freedom and
equality. Powerful story! Powerful
illustrations! Powerful book!

This book tells what it's like to be
weightless in your rocket ship on your
way to the moon. Your orange juice will
float in a blob away from your glass.
You'll have to tie yourself to the bed
so you don't float away in your sleep!
You'll also find out just how different
it is to walk on the moon. And you'll
get great instructions for finding your
way back home!

Ms. Rabuck's class, age 8 from North Carolina We learned there is no air on the moon but it says in the book, "You will rise in the air." We think it could have said, "You will rise above the moon's surface and leap forward like a kangaroo,"

"My Big Brother" is a very special book
that focuses on a family and the love
they share. The family is made up of a
single mother and her three sons. The
story is told through the eyes of the
middle brother whose big brother
teaches him neat things like how to
play the guitar, basketball, and all
about cars. Then one day, because he
wants to go to college, Big Brother
joins the army and has to go away.
Before he leaves, he tells Middle
Brother that he now must be a big
brother to the youngest brother just as
Big Brother was to him. Can Middle
Brother do this for his little brother,
and how will the family do in the
absence of the oldest brother?
Read "My Big Brother" and find out.
