repeated over and over again by the
narrator in this informational picture
book. The baby animals include the
young of alligators, raccoons, turtles,
and ducks. The text shows the
relationship between the animals as
they live and try to survive together
in their watery home. The protective
nature of the mothers is a universal
theme and is highlighted when the
alligator, raccoon, and duck mothers
are shown caring for their young.
Arnosky's renowned illustrations are
vivid with yellows, greens, and browns
and invite young children to enjoy
nature.

illustrations
made with paper, pastels and tempera
are bright and eye-catching. This is a
great book for reading aloud or one on
one sharing.

Calvin is top dog in his household
until Gloria, the cat, comes to join
the family. She eats from Calvin's
food bowl, sleeps in his bed, and seems
to get all the attention. Calvin feels
angry, sad, neglected, and--he doesn't
like Gloria. But, when a mysterious
box is delivered to their house, Calvin
and Gloria may be forced to bond
together. Simple, humorous
illustrations enhance this heartfelt
story.
