1, 2 Buckle My Shoe
Anne Grossnickle Hines (2008) , under 40 pages
Illustrated by
Audience: Toddlers, Preschool
Category: Books & Babies, Poetry, Read Aloud (This book has outstanding illustrations)
|
The youngest child can learn about
numbers and rhyme from reading this
patchwork of counting fun! Hines has
taken the art of quilting and stitched
it to a classic nursery rhyme. She has
created colorful quilted pictures made
with patterned materials, thread, yarn
and buttons. This is a great book for
reading aloud or one on one.

Cat and Mouse
Ian Schoenherr (2008) , under 40 pages
Illustrated by
Audience: Babies, Toddlers
Category: Books & Babies, Classics, Read Aloud (This book has outstanding illustrations)
|
Follow a lively little mouse running
through the house carrying a little
blue umbrella. Right on her tail is a
cat playfully chasing her through three
nursery rhymes. In “Hickory Dickory
Dock”, they fly up the clock until the
mouse uses the umbrella to float down.
But, the fun doesn’t stop there. With
only a white background, the large bold
images seem to pop off of the pages.
Adding to the visual appeal is the hand
painted text with its varying sizes and
shapes. This book can’t help but charm
toddlers as well as adults.

Daddy Hug
Tim Warnes (2008) , under 40 pages
Illustrated by Jane Chapman
Audience: Babies, Toddlers, Preschool
Category: Read Aloud (This book has outstanding illustrations)
|
Tim Warnes and Jane Chapman have teamed
together to create a colorful and
playful celebration to honor daddies.
There are lots of fun action packed
words in this book such as "hic-cup"
and "crash." But most important of all
this story shows, "Daddy safe, daddy
snug, daddy tender . . . daddy hug."
Soothing illustrations make the reader
return to look at the animals multiple
times. Playful text size and shape
helps give the story motion.
