Jabuti the Tortoise: A Trickster Tale From the Amazon
Gerald McDermott (2001) , under 40 pages
Illustrated by Gerald McDermott
Audience: Primary (k-3rd grade)
Category: Folklore, Read Aloud
|
This boldy colored picture book is sure
to be another beloved trickster tale
told by well-known author, Gerald
McDermott. Many of the animals of the
rainforest feel that the flute music
played by Jabuti the tortoise is sour
to their ears. His song reminds them
of the tricks he has played on them.
Most of the birds that fly love the
flute music except Vulture, who is
jealous because he is unable to sing.
Vulture tries to use the King of
Heaven’s festival as a chance to trick
Jabuti, but only manages to earn
disgrace for himself. A great folktale
to read and share with others.
