Book cover Dear Mrs. Larue: Letters from Obedience School
Mark Teague (2002) , under 40 pages
Illustrated by Mark Teague
Audience: Primary (k-3rd grade)
Category: Adventure, Humor, Read Aloud
(This book has outstanding illustrations)

Mrs. LaRue's dog, Ike, is misbehaving. So she does the unthinkable-sends him to Brotweiler Canine Academy, an obedience school for dogs. Ike is SO hurt that Mrs. LaRue would even consider the idea of sending him away. However, he sends her letters of how horrible life is at Brotweiler. But is life for Ike really that bad? Mark Teague has created a dramatic character in Ike LaRue. The illustrations are terrific and the story is great. Check out Ike's fate at Brotweiler's in this humorous picture book.

This book single-handedly (single-pawed-ly?) turned our family of 5 into Mark Teague fans. The illustrations and the text are wonderfully clever and funny.
