Wicked Jack was a mean fellow who
enjoyed his wicked ways. One day an
old man comes to visit and turns out to
be Saint Peter. Jack does not know this
and when he was unintentionally helpful
to Saint Peter, he is granted three
wishes. Jack chooses wishes that will
cause his future visitors a lot of
trouble. Read to find out what happens
when the Devil and his sons visit Jack
one at a time and experience Jack’s
surprises for themselves. Woolridge’s
clear, storytelling style makes this a
good read aloud. Hillenbrand’s pictures
of Jack, the devils, and Saint Peter
add a comic quality to this semi-scary
folktale.
