Verdi’s snakeskin is bright yellow with
sporty stripes. He loves how he looks
and dreads the day he becomes boring
green like the older pythons. Verdi’s
adventures include catapulting himself
into the sky with a tree limb, meeting
a fish hungry for snake, and finding
himself covered in a shell of dried
mud. When Verdi launches himself from
a treetop and makes a painful landing
on a log, the same green pythons that
he thought were so boring rescue him.
This touching story is about growing up
while holding on to your own identity.
Cannon’s wonderful book blends both
large color pictures and small black
and white drawings making this a must
read for primary school–age children.
