Book cover Wolf's Coming!
Joe Kulka (2007) , under 40 pages
Illustrated by
Audience: Preschool, Primary (k-3rd grade)
Category: Mystery, NCCBA, Read Aloud
(This book has outstanding illustrations)

This picture book, with its use of dark colors and shadows, is not what it seems. As a wolf is heard and seen in the distant, animals begin to scurry away. The faces of the characters appear to be afraid as they hurry their children along to a house in the woods. The wolf himself is dressed in a tie and suit coat, but his large head, piercing eyes, and large teeth make him look menacing. Children will enjoy the rhyming text with words like “creaks” and “peeks” as well as “fangs” and “pangs” adding to the scary-fun of the story. The ending is memorable and readers will want to read it again in order to see the previous parts of the story in a new light.
