Book cover The Blushful Hippopotamus
Chris Raschka (1996) , under 40 pages
Illustrated by Chris Raschka
Audience: Preschool, Primary (k-3rd grade)
Category: Novello, Read Aloud

Roosevelt is a shy, meek hippopotamus with an overbearing older sister who is always lurking to embarass him. She calls Roosevelt "a blushful hippopotamus" and continuously teases him about his blushful nature. Lombard, Roosevelt's best friend, calls him a "hopeful hippopotamus, a mindful hippopotamus." Raschka creates a delightful, uplifting tale using simply bold images and poignant text. This book is perfect for all children, especially blushful ones.
