Information Services, located on the 2nd floor of the Main Library, offers an extensive collection of reference and circulating materials, special collections, electronic resources, programs and services.
The Reference collection contains books and resources on a wide range of topics. There are specialized business, technical and general reference resources. Professionally trained Information Specialists staff the reference desk and provide assistance.
Electronic resources allow library users to search for current information from magazines, journals, newspapers and other sources.
The Foundation Center Cooperating Collection at the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County is a body of resources that individual researchers and nonprofit organizations can use to research funding opportunities from foundations and corporations.
As a member of the Foundation Center’s nationwide network of libraries, community foundations, and related agencies, the Main Library offers free access to print and electronic resources to locate grants and grantmakers.

The Business Collection provides a vast selection of business directories, industry guides, investment information, Demographics and Marketing publications and electronic resources. The professionally trained staff have developed and maintain the popular website Bizlink (www.bizlink.org), a collection of the business information resources found through the Internet.
Telephone Reference answers reference queries and provides information by telephone and e-mail. A trained and helpful Telephone Reference staff is available to assist during all library hours. (704) 416-0101

The Non-Fiction Collection has over 200,000 circulating titles. Books in this collection cover art, literature, science, technology, the social sciences and other fields. Special displays highlight new books, biographies, foreign language books and audiocassettes. The Non-Fiction desk staff help the public locate materials and provides general information.

Located near the Reference area is the Periodicals Collection which contains a large selection of magazines, journals, and newspapers. The collection contains volumes from the 1800s to the most current issues and topics available today.
Our library has been a Federal Government Document Depository since 1964. Paper, microfiche, video, and electronic documents are used by our trained staff to help citizens of our community understand their government and its laws, or find statistics and data on an incredible array of topics.
In addition, Information Services has photocopiers, a typewriter, and microfilm/fiche reader-printers available for public use.
Information Services is located at the Main Library at 310 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. Library hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For information call us at (704) 416-0101.
