The Main Library of the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County serves the population of Mecklenburg County and it's surrounding counties. Located centrally uptown in the heart of Charlotte's Arts & Education district, the Main Library offers a mutlitude of services, materials and programs as well as supports the activities of the library system's twenty-one branch locations and outreach services.
Inside the Main Library, you will find many departments offering both general and specialized library services, materials and assistance:
In addition to these departments, the greater depth and breadth of Main's collections and services support the entire Library system including the departments of Youth Services, Technical Services and Adult Outreach.
- The Youth Services department of PLCMC provides programming for children, young adults, their parents, teachers and caretakers. Our office is located in the Main Branch Library.
- The Technical Services department spearheads collections development and materials processing activities to ensure our collection is well balanced.
- The Adult Outreach department provides outreach services to the the elderly and incarcerated.
