Contact the Library's Cooperating Collection

The Foundation Center Cooperating Collection at the Library is a body of resources that individual researchers and nonprofit organizations can use to research funding opportunities from foundations and corporations.

As a member of the Foundation Center’s nationwide network of libraries, community foundations, and related agencies, the Main Library offers free access to print and electronic resources to locate grants and grantmakers.

How Can the Non-Profit Collection Help Me?

• Provide resources for starting a nonprofit organization

• Learn the basics of grant seeking and grant making

• Gather information about grant proposals and proposal writing

• Find detailed profiles for foundations and corporate givers

• Explore additional topics related to philanthropy, volunteerism, and fundraising

Where will I find the collection?

The Non-Profit collection is located on the second floor of the Main Library. Staff members are always available to assist users with the collection during regular library hours. No appointment is necessary to use the Nonprofit collection.

Grant Information

Since 1956, the Foundation Center has been the nation's leading authority on philanthropy. They connect nonprofits and individuals with grant and grantmakers via the most comprehensive database on U.S. foundation and corporate grants available. Use the Foundation Center website to find free basic information about funders based on name, state, and zip code. Search results include organization address, telephone, contact names, assets, total giving, website, and IRS filings (form 990), when available. Website also includes free online tutorials on Foundations and Fundraising, Proposal Writing, and Nonprofit Management.

The following resources are available from public computers at select library locations:

  • Foundation Directory Online   (available only at Main Library, South County, Morrison, Independence, North County and University City Regional Libraries)
    The Foundation Center Online is the premier resource for locating in-depth information about grantsmakers and their grants. Includes almost one million grant opportunities from about 90,000 grantmakers. Either keyword text search all fields in this database or limit results geographically, by fields of interest, types of support, donor name, and more. Results may be sorted by total giving or total assets. Records include Profile, Grants, News/Jobs/RFPs, Publications, People and 990s, where available. Updated weekly.
  • Foundation Grants to Individuals Online   (available only at Main Library, South County, Morrison, Independence, North County and University City Regional Libraries).
    Foundation Grants to Individuals Online, is one of the most comprehensive databases of foundations that provide a wide range of funding support for individuals for purposes, including scholarships, student loans, fellowships, program development, internships, professorships, arts and cultural projects, research, awards/grants by nomination only and general welfare. Either keyword text search or limit results by foundation name, geographically, by fields of interest, types of support, or school name. Updated weekly.
