O'Barr, James and Ed Kramer(1998) The Crow: Shattered Lives and Broken Dreams
A mixed anthology of short stories by many of science fiction's and fantasy's most celebrated writers, as well as poetry by such notable alterna-punk music figures as Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins. All are well written tales of the gothic punk avenger known as The Crow, and they range from the mediocre to the exceptional. Especially notable is Jane Yolen's "Carrion Crows", and the poem, "Fleas", by Iggy Pop. As anthologies go, this one is well done and breathes some life into an otherwise two-dimensional genre.

Harris, Charlaine(2005) Grave Sight
When Harper Connelly was a child she was struck by lightning. While that is bizarre in itself, Harper was left with the ability to sense dead people. She can actually locate the graves of the dearly departed and tell you how they died. This unusual talent has lead Harper and her step-brother/manager Tolliver to the small town of Sarne, Arkansas in search of a missing teenager. While locating the body was easy, locating the killer turns out to be more than Harper and Tolliver bargained for. The first installment of this new series by the author of the Southern Vampire series, Charlaine Harris, leaves us wanting more. More adventure, more suspense, more Harper!

Swann, Leonie(2006) Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story
You will be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t read this book. It takes the most absurd premise and completely sells it through engaging characters and brilliant writing, made even more astounding by the fact that this is Ms. Swann’s first novel. George is a shepherd who is found dead impaled with a spade in his field one morning by his flock. The sheep, deeply upset by the death of the man who used to read to them and treat them well, set themselves out upon the task of discovering and unmasking his killer despite the threat posed by the butcher, a rival flock, and the threat of the ghost wolf. It is easily the best novel that I have read this year.

Wight, Eric(2007) My Dead Girlfriend vol. 1: A Tryst of Fate
Finney Bleak is one of the few normal kids at a supernatural high school. His only claim to fame is that his family has a history of dying in spectacular ways. This doesn’t give you a cheery outlook on life or much of a great reputation when your classmates are witches, werewolves and vampires. Finney is lonely, sarcastic and withdrawn until he meets Jenny at the carnival and its love at first sight until he is stood up. His parents die, the bullying gets worse and he dreams of death. What more could go wrong when he’s cornered in the cemetery by the notorious Deadbeats gang? Darkly humorous yet charming all the same, My Dead Girlfriend is a wonderful read – don’t pass it up.
