King, Stephen(1996) Visit the author's web site
Desperation
Picture this: you're driving through the desert and a large policeman pulls you
over. The next thing you know you're in the back of his car being arrested. Half
way to town you realize he's insane, and most likely dangerous, and your heart
fills with terror. This is the opening scene in a horrifying book that will leave you
both disturbed and unsettled. The narrator takes us through a tale our worst
nightmares couldn't compete with, and shows us the strength of faith
encompassed in a young boy who must lead the fight against it. Like King's The
Stand and Tommyknockers, this novel will stay with you for a long time.

Reader's comments about this book
Terrifying but "unputdownable"! For a while after reading the book, I couldn't look at a patrol car without remembering the novel, and almost imagined the word "Desperation" printed on the side of the car.

This book is crazy-twisted-cool! I loved every word and have yet to find another book that gave me the creeps like this one! Beware! This is the kind of book that you'll fling across the room in shock and then (upon catching your breath) scramble across the floor to find out what happens next!!!!!!
-Priscilla, Charlotte, NC
I think this book is great. I would definitely buy it. That's why i love sci- fi because it always leaves you wondering.

Koontz, Dean(1999) Seize the Night
Koontz brings back the popular Chris Snow, the enigmatic and diseased
light-restricted young man who singlehandedly takes it upon himself to search for
the kidnapper of a young boy. After all, someone, or something, is stealing the
young children. What is worse is that birds are starting to smash into buildings in
a kamikaze craze and monkeys are stampeding while using unusually high critical
thinking skills. Yet when Chris discovers that people are morphing into
something less than human, the plot turns sinister. With a genetic experiment
gone awry, a time machine that envelops anything near it, and a human monster
with an angry vendetta, Koontz takes us all the way again - right into a
pulse-throbbing, roller coaster rider into horror and mayhem.

Vonnegut, Kurt(1997) Timequake
There's a reason for your frequent experiences of deja vu: you have been there
before - doing the same things, suffering the same consequences. It all started in
2001 when the Universe, longing momentarily to revisit the Big Bang, reversed
itself back to 1991. There, upon reconsideration, it reversed itself again.
Down-and-out failed science-fiction writer Kilgore Trout, a frequent character in
Vonnegut's work, and the author himself are there for the Great Rerun, as well
as for that horrific moment when the Universe catches up with itself, and - very
abruptly - free will kicks in.

Koontz, Dean and Kevin J. Anderson(2005) Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein. Book One, Prodigal Son.
It began with Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, horrifying and intriguing readers with its questions of life and death and life anew. But what if the story was not over? What if Victor Frankenstein, as well as his infamous creation, were still alive today? Acclaimed author Dean Koontz puts a new spin on this classic story by placing the characters, as well as an army of new monstrosities, in the modern world. It is there that the old ideals of a mad scientist clash with a new generation of humanity, and neither side will remain unscathed. Complete with stunning, although often gruesome, descriptions and a wonderfully twisted storyline, Prodigal Son is a terrific novel to read for anyone interested in the consequences of science and power.
