Jacob Have I Loved
Young Adult

"Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." These words have been thrown at Louise for as long as she can remember. She was Esau, forever in the shadow of her sister Caroline; second place to her delicate, beautiful, talented, younger twin sister. Caroline stole everything from her; her family, friends, even her name. So Louise began to learn the ways of the water, going to places Caroline could not. Women were not supposed to love the water. The men were to love the water, but respect its power. Without a chance to escape and the shadow of her sister always over her, Louise fought back. She loved the water, hated the island. But when the chance came to leave, could she do it?

Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

The Society was born one night in German-occupied Guernsey as a ruse created on the spot to escape punishment for breaking curfew. Its history is told in an exchange of letters between its members and a writer who finds the topic a promising one for her next book. The resulting tale is one of the most charming this reviewer has read in a long time. Through the unique vehicle of personal correspondence, the writers present an amazing mix of eccentric and heroic characters in a story ranging from hilarious to tragic. No book lover should miss this one.

The Time of My Life

Patrick Swayze seems like a tough guy playing such roles in Red Dawn, Road House, and Dirty Dancing. Yet we also saw his sensitive side in Ghost. Now in his memoir, The Time of My Life, meet the real Patrick Swayze and see just how sensitive and insecure he was growing up and how tough he had to be to fight pancreatic cancer for 21 months. His is a moving story of the two loves in his life -- dancing and his wife, Lisa Niemi, and how he worked to keep them a part of his life, while challenging himself to grow as a person and an artist. Although his time on Earth was short, Patrick Swayze made the most of it and had the time of his life.

You Just Hit the Jackpot

How could a geeky, brainy type end up with the pretty party-girl? Ask Peter Parker—who is also Spider-Man—and he could tell you about Mary Jane Watson. She is the stunning red-head, who has been a part of his life for nearly all of his superhero existence. This eye-opening graphic novel gives some emotional highlights of the devoted couple from first introductions—she does crave the spotlight—to the revelations of discovering Peter’s secret superhero identity. Any Spider-Man/Mary Jane fan would want to read this one all the way through.

Tardi, Jacques and Jean-Patrick Manchette(2009)Recently Added Review
West Coast Blues

George Gerfaut is cruising around Paris in the small hours of the morning, listening to the jazz music that gives the story its title. This has nothing to do with his recent adventures, but the narrative quickly shifts to the car crash that started it all. He takes an injured man to the hospital, not realizing the chain of events he has started. Soon he finds himself pursued by two hit men. He manages to elude them, mainly by luck, and goes on the run. It’s a classic crime noir setup, an innocent man in over his head. Manchette builds an elaborate structure of crime and revenge, brought to gritty life by Tardi’s black and white illustrations. Easily recommended to any crime fiction fan.
