It all began with one character: Bridget Jones. Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding was the catalyst for a new genre in fiction known as “Chick Lit”. The genre consists of novels about strong, single women in their 20s and 30s who share their personal and professional trials and tribulations through witty dialogue and conversational storytelling. The genre reflects trends in society. It can be compared as the literary equivalent to such popular shows as HBO’s hit “Sex and the City”.

From Clive Cussler, author of Trojan Odyssey:

This month, Reader’s Club spotlights Angela from North County Regional Library. Angela has been a faithful reviewer of books for both adults and teens. Here is what Angela has to say about reading and writing book reviews:

“I am never sure what the next book I read will be about. I tend to read to fit my mood. Some days I want to be swept away on a grand adventure or laugh until I cry, on others I want drama and angst. That is one reason why I like to read young adult books. These books deal with so many issues and don’t always tie everything up. To me books should allow you to explore situations and emotions that you wouldn’t normally find yourself in.”
