Mexico is a diverse land rich in history and culture, immigrants from which add a wonderful dimension to life here in the United States. Reader’s Club joins in this celebration and invites you to learn about, and enjoy the wonders of, our neighbor to the south. Put some Santana on the stereo and kick back with a good book!

Here is some of what Robert Morgan, author of Brave Enemies, had to say about his favorite book:
“The first book I ever bought with my own money was a paperback of Dr. Zhivago. I purchased the book in a drugstore in Greenville, S.C. in the late summer of 1960. It cost ninety-five cents, and was a revelation. Reading the love story of Yuri and Lara, in that Cold War time, gave me a new idea of the possibilities of fiction.”

This month Reader’s Club spotlights Sarah from Independence Regional Library. Sarah has been a frequent contributor of reviews for both adults and teens. Here are Sarah’s thoughts on reading and reviewing books for Reader’s Club:
“I like to read mysteries, Southern fiction, literary fiction, young adult fiction, true crime, and personal narratives. My favorite authors include Meg Cabot, James Herriot, Barbara Kingsolver, Michael Malone, Robert B. Parker, Anne Tyler, Cynthia Voigt, Beverly Cleary, and many more.
I read a variety of books. If a book has a great sense of place, strong characters, or an action-packed plot, I will review it. Also, I will pick a book to review if it is particularly clever or humorous. I have to figure out why I liked a book and be able to explain why I liked a book in order to write a review for it.”
