Sea Stories - A great deal can be said about the ocean. It is a place of great beauty. The ocean has been a venue for transporting people from one place to another for many years. Each year millions of people board cruise ships to relax and enjoy the tranquility of the sea. And let’s not forget the vast array of seafood that is harvested from the sea for our enjoyment. So it seems only natural for stories written with these great bodies of water in mind to be just as delectable. This month’s feature offers up just that. These books have used these great bodies of water as a backdrop. So sit back and enjoy as we take you out to sea.

Here is an excerpt from Bill Clinton’s review of To Kill A Mockingbird:

My favorite book - the one that inspired me the most when I was growing up and that I would recommend to all readers - is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Set in the rural South during the 1930s - a time when justice often took a back seat to the color of a person's skin -- the novel tracks the journey of its characters and their society as they find new meaning in the ideals of justice, liberty, and equality upon which our great nation was founded.

This month Reader’s Club spotlights LaJuan. He has contributed several provocative reviews of fiction and non-fiction on a variety of topics. He describes his eclectic reading taste:

I'm a pop culture enthusiast so my favorite reading tends to be non-fiction that deals with current events or situations. I also tend to read materials that are a little darker in nature than others. I'm interested in things that aren't necessarily "normal", sometimes maybe even a little deviant. Since I focus mainly on the subject matter of a book, I don't really have too many favorite authors. However, there are some authors that I seem to read more than others. They include David Sedaris, James Baldwin, and Michael Eric Dyson just to name a few.

The Complete Review

The Librarian’s Choice Award for July 2004 goes to “the complete review: a Literary Saloon and Site of Review.” This site focuses primarily on literary fiction, but does include some reviews of biographies, poetry, and other works of nonfiction. Genre fiction, generally, will not be found here. The best parts of this site are its sections of “New,” “the Best,” and a great “Review Index.”
