Reader's Club salutes LaJuan P., an avid reader and frequent reviewer. LaJuan has reviewed a variety of titles for Reader's Club, both fiction and nonfiction, adult and young adult. Here is what LaJuan has to share with us:
"Ever since I can remember, I've enjoyed reading. Even though I wasn't the best student in high school, any assignment that involved reading a book usually got me going. As a teen, I found myself drawn to murder mysteries and horror books. Agatha Christie and Stephen King were two of my favorites. But when I started going to college, my fascination with how the world works began to shape what I read, and consequently I started reading more non-fiction titles. Today, I try to balance my tastes by switching back and forth between fiction and non-fiction titles. I don't really have a favorite author, but lately I've been reading multiple titles by James Baldwin, Michael Eric Dyson and David Sedaris, just to name a few.
I like writing book reviews because it's much easier for me to express my thoughts and feelings about books through a review than it is to talk about it. Usually if I like a book and no one else has submitted a review for it, then I will. I do try to review books that reflect some aspect of my life and in this sense, this makes doing the reviews a lot easier for me. It's also my hope that in reviewing certain titles, there are others who share my tastes in their literary picks as well."
Thanks, LaJuan!
