This month Reader’s Club honors Ed. Ed has contributed thought-provoking reviews of fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels for both adults and teens. He is also a member of the Reader’s Club Team. Here are Ed’s thoughts on reading and writing reviews: My favorite genre has always been science fiction. I have to say I have always preferred the best of what science fiction has to offer. I avoid novelizations of movies and television series. I think they take readers away from legitimate speculative fiction. As I’ve aged I have started to learn to enjoy more of what contemporary fiction has to offer. Both good science fiction and general fiction should speak to our current concerns. My first favorite author was Robert Heinlein. He was the first author whose name I knew and whose novels I purposely sought out. Tolkien was an early big one also. I have to say the writer who impresses me the most has to be John Steinbeck. East of Eden has to be the shortest 700 page book ever written. Since Reader’s Club doesn’t accept negative reviews I have to have enjoyed a book in order to write a review on it. Not only that, it also has to be a book that I really think deserves to be read by others. The chance to be in an authoritative position is appealing. I always hope that at least one person picks up a book they normally wouldn’t have due to a review I wrote. Thanks, Ed!
