Name: Heidi

Branch: North County Regional

Heidi, an information specialist at North County Regional Library, is our reviewer of the month for November. She has reviewed a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles for adults. Here is what she has to share with us:

Like most librarians, I have always really enjoyed reading and usually have a magazine, newspaper, or book on hand to read in my spare time. My favorite books and authors have well-developed characters that are flawed, yet likeable, hopeful, and resourceful. Humor and a little mystery are also very important. I look forward to new books by M.C. Beaton, Sharyn McCrumb, Patricia Cornwell, Janet Evanovich, and Nick Hornby. I like my non-fiction to be informational and entertaining, like books by Steve Almond, Steven Levitt, and A.J. Jacobs.

Book clubs are great because they encourage me to try authors and more literary books that I would not have chosen on my own. For instance, in one book club I read Mary Doria Russell’s The Sparrow and its sequel, Children of God. Generally, I don’t read science fiction, but these are wonderful books that explore more than other planets: they explore social and environmental issues as well as man’s quest for religion and the meaning of life. In another book club, I read an interesting perspective (that of Mr. Rochester’s mad wife) of one of my favorite all-time books, Jane Eyre, in the Jean Rhys book, The Wide Sargasso Sea.

Thanks Heidi!
