Growing up, my family and I moved around quite often. The one thing that I could keep that was my own, the one thing that I could take with me as I explored new and exciting adventures in my life was reading. Whether it was traveling River Heights with Nancy Drew assisting in solving a mystery or piloting the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo to escape the Imperial Army, I could always jump into another place and time whenever I wanted to.
These days my reading still consists of science fiction, but I have recently been introduced to an author I have absolutely fallen in love with. With the introduction of the world of Damar in the Newberry Award winner The Hero and the Crown, author Robin McKinley came into my life. From a female dragon slayer who saves her kingdom to a retelling of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast in Beauty, McKinley has brought a level of fantastical adventures into the everyday common life of her readers.
As I get older, I find that reading is fun, but sharing these wonderful discoveries with the people in my life is even better. That’s why things such as Reader’s Club are so great. Book suggestions in all genres are posted for people to read and then if they think it looks interesting, they can then go and get the book to read in its entirety. For those readers who need help in choosing books, this opens a portal for them to step through and choose which exciting new world they would like to be introduced to.
