Koertge, Ron(2001) The Brimstone Journals
Young AdultSet in fictional Branston High School, this collection of poems weaves a brilliant yet slightly disturbing tale involving its senior class. It tells the story of a young man who makes a "list" of the students he dislikes and wants to "take care of." Written in the form of a student journal, the book boasts a diverse set of characters who range from athletic jock to resident outcast. Sure to evoke memories of Columbine High School, The Brimstone Journals is an unforgettable look at modern day high school life.

Reader's comments about this book
The Brimstone Journals is a poetic compilation of individual high school students' thoughts and concerns. While each teenager is absorbed with their own challenges, an outcast is secretly growing more angry and violent. With all that is going on in these teenagers' lives, will they recognize how detrimental their behavior can be? Koertge provides true insight into high school dynamics and the insurmountable pressures of gaining acceptance. The Brimstone Journals is disturbing in its realism and a relentless eye opener.
