Graves, John(1960) Goodbye to a River
You asked me to recommend a favorite book. Choosing just one is impossible for me because I have favorites in so many areas, especially history, biography, poetry, and fiction. I recently received a volume of poems by Mary Oliver that I enjoy greatly. Reading poetry aloud with friends is a pleasure that never grows old for me. One of my favorite nonfiction books is a narrative by John Graves entitled Goodbye to a River, the account of a canoe trip the author took down a Texas river that was about to be forever changed by dams. For family reading or to share with children in any setting, one of the books I love is Old Yeller, by Fred Gipson. I wish you and all the visitors to the Reader's Club website lifetimes of good reading!
