Brite, Poppy(2004) Liquor
I've recently fallen in love with Poppy Z. Brite's novel Liquor. It is the perfect book for readers who not only love food, but respect it. Ms. Brite gets everything right in Liquor. Not only did I gain an understanding about what it's like to work "in the back of the house" of a restaurant, I also felt as if I'd just returned from a fascinating trip to New Orleans with a group of locals. Ms. Brite's characters are alive and fascinating and I couldn't help falling a little in love with the main characters John Rickey and G-man.
