In answer to your query about my favorite book, any book by Robert Benchley would be my answer. Specifically, probably, My Ten Years in a Quandary and How They Grew stands out.

Reader's comments about this book
At eight years old I found a red clothbound book in my parents’ attic. It had one corner gnawed off (I had brothers).
I read just a line or two and Benchley had me immediately. I'd never expected grown-up books to be filled with such outrageous funny essays. I wanted to write just like Robert Benchley when I grow up.
Benchley's offhanded style of humor is a delight. Benchley's columns are just as wonderful today as when first published. They simply do not become dated. The book contains 104 essays in all, by my count (such as it is these days).
