Baer, Richard(2003) Sleeping with the Devil: how Washington sold our soul for Saudi crude
This is one of the best books I've read recently. It tells the fascinating story of America's complex entanglement with Saudi Arabia and the Middle East from a perspective that is utterly nonpolitical (at least in the partisan sense). If you wonder about the who, what, where and why of world affairs and are not afraid to read something that paints a disturbing picture of how members of both political parties handled oil affairs, this is a good read. It's also very well written and keeps the reader's attention.
