Gruley, Bryan(2009)
Starvation Lake: a Mystery

Small town characterizations abound in Starvation Lake, a Mystery, set in the late twentieth century in a fictional Michigan town. We step into the lives of protagonist, Gus Carpenter and the town inhabitants whose existence are intertwined in this multifaceted mystery. An air of suspense prevails as several subplots develop in this tale of a seemingly simple, yet increasingly complex, small town environment. Themes of friendship, greed, secrecy, and loyalty contribute to the struggle to discover the truth behind the disappearance of a beloved ice hockey coach. An engrossing read. Be prepared for occasional coarse dialogue and an explicit revelation late in the story.
