Can she and her family clear their names before it is too late?
- reviewed by Linda, North County Regional, PLCMC

Bruiser

by Shusterman, Neal
Nicknames, like appearances, can be deceiving. That's the case with Brewster Rawlins, a.k.a. Bruiser. Bruiser is not just big, he’s hulking big. Once voted Most Likely to Receive the Death Penalty, his high school classmates are afraid of him, except for 16-year old Bronte. She goes out with Bruiser, much to the disgust of her twin brother Tennyson. Then Tennyson notices that Bruiser is often in pain, both physical and emotional, while Tennyson and Bronte are pain-free, no cuts, bruises, or even sadness. A strange coincidence? Can pain be traded or taken from those you love, and if so, are there risks? Find out in this unforgettable journey that tests friendship, love and sacrifice. Shusterman offers a unique and well crafted tale for all ages.
- reviewed by Kim, University City Regional, PLCMC

Tenth Grade Bleeds

by Brewer, Heather
This is the third book in the amazing series The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. She is half faery and half human and doesn’t really fit into either world completely. But Ani’s faery traits are getting stronger. Her father has let Ani live with him and go on the hunt, but he won’t let her fight with the hounds or have any kind of physical contact with them. What most don’t know is that Ani feeds off physical contact as well as emotions. She is different than any of the others in that way. Devlin, the High Queen’s bloody hands, can tell when he first meets her that Ani is different. He feels compelled to protect her despite what logic may dictate. Ani knows that Devlin is stronger, different and dangerous. Caroline Meyer has created a realistic picture of life in the time of Shakespeare with characters that could have been. In Loving Will Shakespeare, Agnes Hathaway, better known to us as Anne, has known Will Shakespeare his entire life. She was at his christening a few days after his birth and saw him grow up. Agnes tells of her life as a local crofter’s daughter and her interactions with the now famous playwright as they both grew older. While waiting for Will to grow up, Agnes’s life makes for a fascinating tale, especially with her hateful stepmother and equally distasteful half-sister. Caroline Meyer’s story makes one wonder how much of it is true.
- reviewed by Linda, North County Regional, PLCMC
