Size 12 is Not Fat

Heather Wells was a teen pop star and engaged to boy band star Jordan Cartwright. Then Heather lost her recording contract and her fiancé! Now she's the assistant director of a residence hall at New York College. After a student is found dead at the bottom of an elevator shaft, Heather is determined to prove that it wasn't due to elevator surfing. She seeks help from her roommate Cooper, who's a detective, and the man of her dreams. (He just doesn't know it yet.) Heather starts investigating on her own delving deeper into the mystery. Soon she finds herself not only worried about the students, but her own life may be in danger too! Meg Cabot delivers a laugh-out-loud mystery with a very entertaining amateur sleuth.

Neptune Avenue: a Jack Leightner Crime Novel

Job priority one: Jack needs to help his new partner in his first murder case of a young woman found hung in a run-down home in the Crown Heights community of Brooklyn. Personal priority one: Jack quietly checks on the homicide case of a beloved acquaintance in a nearby precinct—a one-time fellow hospital patient named Daniel Lelo. The two met when Jack was recovering from a gunshot wound. And the result: it’s near blind devotion to the second priority while the professional assignment almost becomes a distance memory. Daniel’s attractive widow, Zhenya, comes to capture nearly all of Detective Jack Leightner’s attention in a perilous situation putting both in an in-depth criminal investigation in the immigrant Russian community. Here’s a nicely-paced, entangled detective novel.

In the Shadow of Gotham

How could a violent murder occur in the sleepy village of Dobson, NY? It becomes the task of seasoned, former NYC detective Simon Ziele to discover the perpetrator and bring him to justice. Early into the investigation, Simon is contacted by Alistair Sinclair, a criminology researcher who proposes a ready-made suspect. But, is Simon convinced this suspect is guilty? The investigation unfolds, revealing layers of complexities to this initially simple solution. Woven into the action are events unfolding in the New York City area at the turn of the twentieth century, giving this historical fiction story an authentic feeling. A combination of first person narration and intelligent dialogue meld into an intriguing and suspenseful quest for truth.

Atkinson, Kristine and Joyce Atkinson(2006)
Journal: Amy Zoe Mason

Who was Amy Zoe Mason? According to the journal found in a hidden space in a desk, she was a devoted wife and mother. She loved crafts and artistry. She lost her own mother, with whom she was close, a few months before and her husband got a job in Boston which prompted starting the journal. It was a prestigious new job, but it meant a separation while Amy got the house ready to sell and the kids through the school year. She thought the journal might help her deal with all that was happening. As her husband stopped coming home as often, Amy wrote down her frustrations, fears, and doubts. The Journal is a voyeuristic look into the last months of a woman’s life.
